Estrogen: The Female Hormone

Most everyone has heard about estrogen. Most would say,"That's the woman's hormone". But a lot of the gender specific hormones are produced in both men and woman. Woman just have a higher amount in their systems than men do.

Estrogen is mainly produced by the ovaries, but can also come from the liver, adrenal gland, breasts, and fat cells. It is one of the main hormones that is created for reproduction and an imbalance can cause a multitude of problems.

In Chinese Medicine estrogen is yin. Yin being the feminine and Yang being masculine. Both the Yin and the Yang have to be in balance for you to be free of problems.yinyangblueWomen with too much estrogen tend to be heavier. Your fat cells will also produce estrogen so more fat cells more estrogen. Women with too little estrogen will have masculine features such as facial hair, deeper voice, and muscular bodies

When too much estrogen is produced Yin starts to over take the Yang. You will have less energy and may have digestive problems. You can feel like a wet cloth is put over your head because with an increase in Yin, dampness will follow.

The term dampness in Chinese Medicine is metaphoric but I will show you how these ancient terms are much more understandable than the western terms that your doctor may use.
