Acupuncture and fertilty?
So you are starting your journey in the world of fertility treatments. This can be one of the most stressful times of your live. Many changes are about to happen. Between doctor appointments and drug therapy the up and downs of what you are about to do can be overwhelming even for the strong. So maybe you are wondering why acupuncture? Much has been said about using acupuncture for fertility. Your Reproductive Endocrinologist may even refer you to see an acupuncturist. But the question is why should you bother. Because... studies have shown that it can increase your changes by 40-60% to become pregnant. I don't want to bore you with statistics so I will explain why acupuncture will help you reach your ultimate goal. Treatment for fertility using acupuncture has a longer history in the Asian culture and is somewhat of a new phenomena in the United States. But for the last 10 years many acupuncturist have been treating women to increase their chances to become and stay pregnant. Now I know what you may be thinking, how can poking me with more needles when I am becoming a pin cushion increase may chances? It all comes down to HORMONES. Yes that's right! Now I know that you will read many articles, or blogs, or visit websites that tell you the mystical ways that acupuncture with increase your qi. Or that by unblocking your qi and moving your blood will lead you to the pregnancy that you have dreamt of. But I am here to tell you that these are just metaphors for what is going on in your bodies physiology. Okay, so it's hormones but you still haven't said how sticking me with more needles will increase my fertility. First you must understand what hormones are. They are chemicals that are produced by different organs that make things happen in your body. Without them nothing would happen in our bodies and with too much of them we can cause severe chronic diseases. That being said, another part of this equation is how we develop as tiny little cells, become little babies, and grow into adults. As we grow, our cells multiple and stretch to form different body parts. To put it simply everything in your body was very small and then it stretched out into a larger body. At one time, you foot was close to your chest and your hand were close to your head. So by sticking a needle into says your foot, you can effect what is going on in your chest. I know it might be hard to visual. But think of it like the domino effect. Ever play domino? You line up the domino that are little tiles in a line or even a curve. When you push the first domino down it will knock down the next one and thenext one until it finally hits the last one.
That's what happens by inserting the needle! It starts a chain reaction. The Chinese believe that there are a series of networks within the body, similar to a web, that they call meridians. Qi and blood flow through these meridians and should travel in a certain path at certain times. If this flow is disrupted you get sick. By balancing the flow of qi and blood your body will have the ability to heal itself. I know that this is a gross simplification of the process, but I hope you get the point. Confused? Just ask any question and we will be glad to help you understand how acupuncture can help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
